Oscar Fashion 2009: My take on the Good, the Bad and the plain WTF!

I really enjoy Oscars for the simple reason of not only movies, also Oscar fashion. Here are my pics for this years The Good, The Bad and The WTF.

In my GOOD category selected 3 movie stars, which consistently make my best dressed list on different occasions. First and probably my top choice is Natalie Portman in Rodarte. I was scared when I heard pastels are in this year, but he took my breath away in this lavender dress. Rodarte is now officially on my list of designers to watch in 2009! Next is Angelina Jolie, which these days can do no wrong. She makes me LOVE black! That's all the needs to be said here! Finally, Jennifer Aniston in Valentino. The dress it AMAZING and she looked amazing in it! I have a bead-bias... and Italian one for that matter.

In the next section it seems like I had a vendetta against cream/nude/white colored dresses. Maybe its a vendetta against pale people in them. Either hit the sun or throw some color on your body.
First we have, Evan Rachel Wood in an Elie Saab gown, which is great but looks like something from Elie's Pronovias wedding collection. Possibly... it really is is. The going forward with the wedding theme is Penelope Cruz and SJP. I <3 SJP and DIOR, and I love Penelope probably most of them all, but I've seen both the designer and the actresses do much better in the fashion department. Finally, Anne Hathaway in an amazing Armani Prive chosen by Rachel Zoe... I LOVE the dress and it fits well. Once again .... Anne needs color.... Emerald green maybe? I think colorful jewelry would do this dress justice.

In my WTF section I have the repeat x100 offender : Jessica Biel. I want to personally fire her stylist. I know this is Prada...but let's be honest...Miucca hasn't done anything really amazing since her Venetian collection circa 2004. It's the Oscars, if your dress makes this much of a statement with dimension - PLEASE PUT YOUR HAIR UP! When it comes to Beyonce I am not a hater of curves. Embrace them - just don't do it in a hedious dress that will make you look like you're wrapped in curtains.
As to Miley I am not sure how you go from amazing, red VALENTINO to lil mermaids favorite designer! We know your soul was sold to Disney Miley but really?!? She is young... there is hope!

some days are just left with dot...dot...dot...

So over the past month I've busted my butt to get my foot into the door of the corporate fashion world. Its occupied my mind, my soul and despite the fact that I didn't stress too much about it, I had high expectations. I had interview #4 on Wednesday...and thanks to LA traffic, my dead end job and presentation with some high client VP or some sort and probably simply fate... I WAS LATE!

Yes ladies and gentlemen.... I'm never late and I was...SO I've been CUT. ByeBye! !

SO yesterday was probably one of the worst days in a long time. I even cried... and then contemplated on what the F am I doing with my life. BUT ... in the end I'm f-ing good at this fashion thing... and I'm pretty good at this dead end job of mine that for now just pays the bills... and I'll be good at the next thing I do..

So this is your mid-20s Mags!!.. and its passing you one minute at a time... things can't always be bad and jobs can't alwasy make you feel shitty... after all its just a job.

So I'm starting over. I'm really good at that and what's next? who knows! I'm in LA there is a lot of options. Key is not to look back and move on... and I just did!

Thanks for the opportunity "company X"!

FASHION can be selfless!

My 1st fashion memory was sticking a button up my nose when I was 3 and not being able to take it out. You ask why? Because i liked playing with my grams sewing crap. It was my hobby at 3. That's when I fell in love with Fashion.

Over the years I learned to tolerate the fact that fashion is selfish and superficial, but OH IS IT PRETTY!! What can I say you gain some you lose some.

About 2 years ago I became introduced to the selfless, non-superficial side of fashion - TOM's Shoes!!!

Those of you who know me know that I am a huge advocate and own 4 pairs of TOMs myself. YOu maybe also get special notifications encouraging you to buy TOM's yourself. But what exactly is TOM's shoes?

TOM's mission is simple: ONE FOR ONE

What exactly does that mean? Well, "for every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of shoes to a child in need. One for One. Using the purchasing power of individuals to benefit the greater good is what we're all about." (Took this straight from their website. I hope I don't get sued.

The shoes are super comfortable and relatively cheap (avr. 45$). If that is a lot to you just divide by two and pretend you're buying the other pair for someone in need and its only $22.50.

Personally, I have the travel bug and over the years, in Africa, Latin America and even my home Europe, I've seen people in poverty and need of help. I wish I could donate money ... but I am pretty broke so I do what I can and I do it though TOM's shoes. One day I dream of participating in TOM's shoe drops, but right now they are a bit too pricy.

Read up more about Blake Mycoskie, the creator of TOM's and the company, buy a shoe, get involved... go to these sites:

SO i guess i <3 lists ... Mags' Favorite Art!!

I became introduced to David Buckingham in an issue of vogue. There was an article about a celebrity and one of the pictures of his apartment has this exact piece hanging in there. As always, I became obsessed and NEEDED to find this painting, not knowing the it was actually 10K! Ouch! So...... I never bought it (duh), but I did do my research on the artist and found his Andy-Warholish pop-culture influenced art pretty amazing. When I fell in love with the piece, I was about to move to LA, and the Check mark was definitely on the LOVE part. After living in LA for 8th months now, I still love the city and all that it has to offer very much. But...I also understand the Love-Hate relationship that people have with the city! If anyone ever finds a replica of this piece that is not 10K LET ME KNOW! And check out David's other art at:

and

Some of it is funny, some controversial, some even cynical ... but it's all great and aren't most artist pretty complex?!

A lot of my favorite art is my favorite because of nostalgia. Van Gogh and Jan Matejko (the artist of the above) were the first artists I was introduced to when I was around 4. They were just creators of familiar pictures that hung in my home and remind me of my childhood. Jan Matejko had a studio close to my house in this huge park outside of Krakow. My aunt who taught me all that i know about music and art used to bring me there all the time. This was my favorite picture she used to tell me about.

Bernini - Apollo and Daphne
I was introduced to Benini when I lived in Rome. I think he's the best sculptor, even better then Michaelangeo. His details are so profound that they enhance the story he's trying to tell. His work is spread out though out Rome. If you even go there hit me up and I'll have good pointers.

Vincent van Gogh - Poppy Field

Why: Not many people know but poppy flowers are my favorite flowers... yes i know its not roses or lilies like most people. Poppy flowers remind me of growing up in Poland and spending vacation in our vacation house that my grandfather built in the countryside. It reminds me of harvest and running though wheat fields... sounds like a cheesy movie... well it was kind of like that ... pretty magical. Van Gogh's country side motifs remind me of just that.

PS: This list is alive! meaning.... it is a list of art that i've loved, i love now or will love in the future... check back in so see what new pieces make me gitty!
